Bundestag resolution on keeping exotic animals: Organized aquarists and terrarium keepers are competent contacts

On November 26th, 2020, the grand coalition put a motion on the keeping and trade in exotic wild animals to a vote in the Bundestag (printed matter 19/24645 https://dip21.bundestag.de/dip21/btd/19/246/1924645.pdf).

The Association of German Associations for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies (VDA) represents the interests of aquarists and terrarium owners in Germany. Its goals include the promotion of expertise, environmental education and species protection for aquaristics and terraristics.

VDA President Jens Crueger emphasizes: “Competent aquarists and terrarium keepers are absolute professionals in their field. Science and zoos benefit from this knowledge and experience. And one thing is certain: the multitude of fish, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates threatened by environmental influences can only be encountered with the active help of private owners. Competent private owners should therefore work with conservationists, zoological gardens and scientists to form so-called 'conservation networks' in order to save endangered fish, amphibians and reptiles from extinction. "

For a long time, the VDA has been pursuing and implementing approaches to the conservation and breeding of endangered fish, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates by private owners. He makes his relevant know-how available to political decision-makers at all political levels in regular discussions.
